FAQ

Who will be Waxing Me?

All body waxing will be performed by a thoroughly trained licensed cosmetologist/wax specialist. Together, Kat and Tonia have 10+ years’ experience in the business. We are thoroughly educated on technique and industry standards. We will make you feel comfortable and at ease with our sweet personalities and exceptionally skilled waxing techniques.

What should I do to prepare for my wax?

It is always helpful to exfoliate and take a mild anti-inflammatory medication (like ibuprofen) before a wax service. This will help to reduce skin redness and swelling, and will help to keep you calm if you get nervous easily. Avoid caffeine and alcohol 24 hours before your waxing service. These are stimulants and will only increase your blood flow, making the experience more nerve-racking.

What is Double Dipping?

Double dipping is a common practice used by unethical salons who dip used waxing sticks repeatedly in one service. This contaminates the entire wax container with harmful bacteria. Not at Smooth by Nature! Our sticks are dipped once into sterile wax, applied to the client once, and then immediately discarded. This prevents you from being exposed to harmful bacteria and diseases. During one wax session we may go through as many as 20 waxing sticks. Whether it's a bikini, underarm or leg wax service, we are very proud to say... "WE NEVER DOUBLE DIP OUR WAX STICKS!!!"

What is a Bikini strip Wax?

The bikini wax removes hair that is visible outside of your bathing suit or underwear.

What is a Brazilian/Bikini Wax?

The brazilian wax removes all of the hair from underneath the belly button continuing to the backside. Some people choose to leave a strip or a triangle on the top. In order for you to receive a brazilian wax, you’ll need to be naked from the waist down. It may seem uncomfortable, but we are very experienced and have performed this service on hundreds of women so you can feel secure with our discretion and professionalism.

How long should my hair be before I get waxed?

Ideally the hair needs to be at least a 1/4 inch in order to be waxed—about the size of a grain of rice. The longer the hair, the easier the pull and the better the results. It usually takes about 7- 10 days for hair to grow this long after shaving. You will not need to trim or buzz before your wax if the hair is long and thick. We will take care it!

What is Numbing Gel?

Smooth by Nature strives to make sure our guests are as comfortable as possible. Numbing gel is a fast acting topical anesthetic gel that takes the sting out of hair removal. It does not interfere with wax and does not leave greasy film on the skin. You arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment and apply the anesthetic for $5.00, or buy the 1oz bottle for $25.00. Make sure to ask for the numbing gel 10 minutes prior to your wax.

Will my Brazilian Wax hurt?

We know your first brazilian can be scary and we want you to feel as comfortable as possible. Avoid caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours before your wax. Take a mild anti-inflammatory medication (like Ibuprofen) 1 hour prior to your appointment. Most women find waxing to be very tolerable. After just one wax session your regrowth will be much more sparse (less hair, less pain) thinner and softer. That is one of the major benefits. With continued waxing, you may even experience significant reduction in regrowth. This makes it easier and less painful if you keep up with regular waxes.

Can I tan after my wax?

You should not tan within 48 hours of before or after you wax. Waxing has an exfoliating effect on the skin and will make you temporarily more susceptible to sunburn and sensitivity. Wait to come in after a spray tan, or wax will exfoliate the tan right off. Spray tan after your waxing appointment.

Are there any age restrictions?

You must be 18 years of age or have a parental approval/signature to be a guest of Smooth by Nature, LLC.

Can I get waxed while I'm on my period?

You can still get waxed while you are on your period. We just suggest that you wear a tampon. You are a lot more sensitive during this time. Due to the extra blood flow in the area, sometimes our guests may even bruise.

How long will I stay red?

The skin may stay red and tender anywhere from 1 to 24 hours depending on your skin's sensitivity. The waxes we use are more gentle on the skin, therefore most people will experience very little redness and irritation. We offer products to speed up the healing process.

What about Ingrown Hairs?

EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE!!! We advise ALL individuals who receive body waxing to exfoliate gently on a daily basis. You WILL get ingrown hairs if you’re not exfoliating!! We will discuss these issues during your waxing appointment. We have many products to choose from to fit your individual needs.

I’m pregnant... can I get waxed?

Brazilian waxing during your pregnancy is perfectly normal and is not harmful to you or your baby at all. We are highly experienced with waxing moms-to-be. Your skin may be a little more sensitive during this special time. We suggest asking your doctor for any other concerns...they may even thank you :)

How long will my wax last?

Depending on your rate of hair growth, the average amount of time you should be hair-free for is at least 2 to 3 weeks. Most people do well on a waxing schedule of every 4-6 weeks. The more you wax the longer it lasts!

How long will my appointment be?

Brazilian or bikini waxes will take no longer than 30 minutes. We are well-versed in speed-waxing. Full legs, full arms, backs and chest will each take 1 hour at the most. On average, a full body wax should take 1 ½ hours.

Remember…

Waxing is a very personal service but you are in good hands! We are incredibly qualified, friendly and professional. We will guide you through the process and make you feel comfortable and happy with your results.
